2 day project - Love

Recently we were given a two day project where we had to choose a word out of a list and make something relating to that word. I chose Love and wanted to use photography and letterpress on my work so I incorporated them together. I think these worked out really well and I'm very please with how they turned out.

The Hay Festival

Recently we got asked to create a sculpture or furniture for the garden at The Hay Festival. I chose to do an archway. We all had to come up with a design and explain how we would make it out of recycled materials and show examples which I have done in the images above. Surprisingly my design got chose for the archway and other students in my group got chosen of a sculpture they had also designed. My archway was originally suppose to be a pile of books stacked up on top of eachother but they changed it to bind folders instead. The project was very stressful but we managed to get it finished in the end and I was very pleased with the finished outcome.

Letterpress Printing

We also had another project where Punk was the theme again. This time we went down to the print workshop where we learnt the technique Letterpress Printing and create a few pieces of our own using that technique. We looked at The Sex Pistols as one of our artist research so I used some lyrics out of one of their songs put it on my piece (top left).

Punk Heat Transfer

These were made in the textiles workshop. We transferred images (the theme was Punk) on to fabric using heat transfer. The blue stripes on the image to the left were bits of card or paper which we had covered in ink and also put it in the heat transfer aswell as the image. I like how the ink came out really vibrant and strong which works pretty well with the image.

Photomontage

This was one of the pieces I made in graphics. We had a go at photomontage using photographs of the black and white house we took ourselves. We made this using photoshop. I found this quite interesting and really enjoyed doing this. I may consider doing something like this in the future.

Repeat Patterns

One week, we were looking at repeat patterns. The image to the left is of a koi carp I drew myself but photocopied it and repeated it a few times. I then created the butterfly repeat pattern on photoshop. I had to make a template of the butterfly first then i copied it over and over again.

Personal Belongings

This project was set at the start of the year. In that week of doing fine art, we got given a task where we had to get out at least 3 of our most important or favorite belongings out of our bags and draw them. We first started off by drawing our bags with one of the main objects which was most important to us. Using graphite, I first started off by drawing my purse poking out of my bag. I found it quite difficult to get the shadows right on the bag but I think it turned out pretty well. I then drew my purse separately using fine liner. I added a bit of water to some of the dark areas on the purse to blend the shadows. I then photocopied one of my bracelets and went round the edge with white emultion paint to show negative space.

Natural Forms

This project was on Natural Forms. We got given a task where we had to go outside and collect natural objects and draw them using different techniques. For example, the bottom left drawing was a continuous line drawing of a broken branch with leaves I had found just outside the college. I then drew two more drawings of the branch where one was a quick sketch and slightly detailed (top centre) and the other (top right) was drawn showing negative space using charcoal.
